A band like F#*#ed Up doesn't translate easily onto paper.
The newest addition to the Bedlam roster, the hardcore/punk band, formed in 2001, is made up of 10,000 Marbles on lead guitar, Father Damian (aka Pink Eyes) on vocals, Mustard Gas on bass, Gulag on rhythm guitar and Guinea Beat (aka Mr. Jo) on drums. If their names aren't meant to keep you guessing, perhaps their track record of releases is. Opting for the release of over 20 vinyl 7"s and 12"s between 2002 and 2006, they have drawn inspiration from a wide variety of places to fuel album concepts: from anarchism in the Spanish Civil War to mysticism.
F#*#ed Up draws on traditional hardcore influences while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of the genre. Take for example "Hidden World", released in October 2006. You probably didn't think you would be hearing strings and organ on a hardcore/punk album. F#*#ed Up features both, with guest performances by one of Canada's premiere indie rock musicians. Don't worry though, hardcore is where F#*#ed Up will prevail. One only needs to see the footage from their recent performance on MTVLive and the chaos that ensued to recognize this band as true front runner's in the world of Canadian hardcore/punk. The performance got the attention of both the public and the folks upstairs at MTV. The senior producer at MTVLive posted a blog rebuttal to claims that the recording had been banned saying, "we fucking loved it so much we put the performance up everywhere."
If you want to know what F#*#ed Up is really all about, reading this wont do them as much justice as getting your hands on an album or tickets to a show, so what are you waiting for?
